This two-day
SEI course is required for all SCAMPI team members. The
course covers the essentials of working effectively on an
appraisal team. In addition to team building exercises, it
includes an overview of the SCAMPI process, terminology,
SCAMPI Class A overview, and identifies the Appraisal roles,
responsibilities and activities.
This class
includes information on planning and preparing for the
appraisal, and a review of the appraisal plan, including
role assignments, and how to access the organization’s PI-21
SharePoint SCAMPI page. The conduct of the SCAMPI steps are
covered in detail using live data and exercises to ensure
that the participants will have gained the skill and
knowledge that they need to participate effectively in the
SCAMPI A. The SEI course material is augmented with
PI-21 specific material which articulates the PI-21 standard
tailoring of the SCAMPI method which provides more effective
use of on-site time and providing more detailed results than
minimally required by the method.
The course
also includes evening reading assignments and experiential
learning exercises to prepare the team members for their
anticipated roles in note taking, and asking follow-on
questions of interviewees in the appraisal. The classroom
time includes opportunities for participant questions and
discussions. Emphasis is placed on understanding the steps
of the appraisal and the importance of each one; and
understanding the rules for documenting evidence and for
making the many decisions required during the appraisal.
All candidate and alternate SCAMPI team
members must take
this course, but anyone interested in learning about
the conduct of a SCAMPI appraisal should consider this course a
good starting point for preparing for the appraisal.
