PI-21 Information
| High Maturity SCAMPIs The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is currently auditing all High Maturity SCAMPI appraisals. We at PI-21 applaud this effort and support the SEI in any way we can to help this audit process be successful. We believe that more effective and higher quality appraisals will ultimately make the CMMI model more effective for all that use it and rely on its ratings to conduct business. Our certified High Maturity Leads work with the SEI to provide timely input to minimize the impact of the audit on the appraisal process. In most cases, the client isn't even aware that the audit is taking place. In order to ensure that high maturity appraisals work smoothly, PI-21 requires that all team members take the SCAMPI High Maturity Team Training supplement taught by our Certified High Maturity leads. This ensures that all team members are on the same page during the appraisal and can work effectively during the consensus process. Prior to the appraisal, our Certified High Maturity leads work carefully with the organization to identify appropriate team members to ensure the whole process remains objective. With well qualified team members, the PI-21 high maturity appraisals are effective and efficient in determining a rating for the organization that would easily be validated by the SEI and others if needed. During the high maturity readiness review, the PI-21 Certified High Maturity lead appraiser carefully reviews the process performance models and process performance baselines along with other objective evidence to ensure the organization is truly ready for the appraisal. If there is doubt, the lead clearly articulates the issues with the sponsor of the appraisal and the site coordinator. Corrective actions are identified and re-planning is done as needed. This minimizes the risk of conducting an expensive high maturity appraisal without achieving the target rating. For high maturity situations, PI-21 strongly urges organizations to perform SCAMPI Bs and / or SCAMPI Cs in the months leading up to a formal SCAMPI A. This also reduces the risk of not achieving the desired rating during the SCAMPI A. PI-21 cannot guarantee (and no certified high maturity lead should either) any SCAMPI A will result in the desired rating. But by allowing us to perform these interim check points, we can help our clients minimize the risk of not achieving the desired rating. |
