Capability Maturity Model Integration for Development (CMMI-DEV), v1.2
CMMI® (Capability Maturity Model® Integration) for Development (CMMI-Dev) is one of the current three constellations of the CMMI. It is a process improvement maturity model for the development of products and services, which consists of best practices that address development and maintenance activities that cover the product lifecycle from conception through delivery and maintenance. It integrates bodies of knowledge that are essential for development and maintenance that have been addressed separately in the past, such as software engineering, systems engineering, acquisition, hardware and design engineering, and the engineering “-ilities.”
This constellation consists of two models: CMMI for Development + Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD) and CMMI without IPPD. Both models share much of their material and are identical in the shared areas, but the constellation contains additional goals and practices to cover IPPD.
The CMMI-Dev provides a comprehensive integrated solution for development and maintenance activities applied to products and services and can help an organization to improve development and maintenance processes for products and services. This constellation is the most comprehensive of the three existing constellations, and where a wide range of project types exist, this model may be the best choice for the organization.
