CMMI® for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ)

The CMMI-ACQ, V1.2 model is a collection of best practices that is generated from the CMMI V1.2 Architecture and Framework. This includes acquisiton best practices from both government and industry. The Acquisition model provides guidance for the application of CMMI best practices by the acquirer including activities for initiating and managing the acquisition of products and services to meet the needs of the customer.  The CMMI-ACQ model is focused on the processes of the acquirer, although suppliers may provide some artifacts useful to the processes addressed in CMMI-ACQ.  CMMI-ACQ integrates bodies of knowledge that are essential for an acquirer.

CMMI-ACQ is a minimal and logical extension to CMMI v1.2 content, which allows current CMMI users to improve the acquisition of products and services.  There is extensive reuse of the process areas of the CMMI-Dev.  Of the 22 process areas, 16 are CMMI Foundation (CMF) and 6 focus on practices specific to acquisition, addressing solicitation and supplier agreement development, acquisition requirements development, agreement management, acquisition technical management, acquisition verification, and acquisition validation processes.  For those organizations who also have a role as a product or service developer the CMMI-DEV model should also be used to improve the acquirer's product and service development processes.

For those of you who are familiar with the CMMI-Dev, you should feel at home with many of the following process areas:
